Increase Curb Appeal, Bottom to Top

May 8, 2017

increase curb appeal with these tips

Whether you’re selling your home or just sprucing things up, there are a lot of things you can do to increase curb appeal.

From the bottom to the top, these details magnify your curb appeal and make your home look gorgeous.

Increase Curb Appeal at Ground Level

Working from the ground up, there’s a lot you can do to make your home’s exterior far more appealing.

Remember that your yard and driveway contribute to the overall look of your home, and the way you maintain your property outside gives neighbors, friends, and potential homebuyers an idea of the potential condition inside.

Consider taking these steps to start boosting curb appeal from bottom to top:

  • Upgrade your landscaping
  • Add a layer of fresh mulch to your flowerbeds
  • Install solar lights along walkways
  • Powerwash your driveway, decks, patios, and walkways
  • Repair any cracks and stain your driveway
  • Tend to your lawn
  • Install a simple paver walkway to your front door

Increase Curb Appeal at Eye Level

Working our way up, the next step is to examine your house at eye level. Sometimes, it helps to have a friend lend a fresh pair of eyes to catch the little things you miss. After all, you see your home every day, and your brain simply tunes out that crooked fence and fading paint.

After you’ve walked around and looked for potential fixes, use this list to help find less obvious upgrade options:

  • Update your paintjob
  • Paint your front door
  • Install new exterior light fixtures
  • Upgrade your house numbers
  • Add window boxes and flowers
  • Add or paint shutters
  • Consider some classy outdoor artwork, such as a garden sculpture or fountain
  • Clean your windows
  • Repair rotted or damaged wood
  • Update railings
  • Fix, paint, or replace fencing

Increase Curb Appeal Up Top

Now, it’s time to top things off. Can you make any of these improvements?

  • Clean or replace your roof
  • Clean or replace your gutters
  • Check the condition of any chimneys
  • Get rid of old bird nests or other evidence of pests

Some of these suggestions are quick and easy, like power washing your sidewalks, while others take more time and investment. The first step to increase curb appeal, though, is always the same: try to look at your home with fresh eyes. You’ll be surprised at all the improvement opportunities you spot!
